As the title states, according to CBC, the prime ministers office has decided that 'The Government of Canada' should be replaced. On all federal communications it now all says, 'The Harper Government'.
It seems to be partly a ploy by Steven Harper to build his image. He has gone onto the government of Canada website (which is payed for by the tax payers) and changed many headings to 'The Harper Government'.
The real argument here is that this is not 'Steven Harpers Government' it is the Canadian Government for the people of Canada. This branding of 'The Harper Government' gives the appearance of a dictatorship and is in bad taste especially with the current political turmoil in other countries. Dominic Leblonc the MP for New brunswick goes on record saying, 'This is unprecedented, you would expect this kind of directive to be issued by the information ministry of North Korea'.
Stockwell Day the president of the treasury board believes the action to be 'not a big deal'. The conservative Government seems to think people will take this change sitting down all across Canada. The video goes even deeper into other issues with the 'Harper Government' stating immigration woes.
The video finishes with 'We will have to see if anyone outside of Ottawa cares'. This statement is why I wrote this piece and want to know what others think, is it tasteless? Or does it not matter to you?
Update: There have been numerous petitions formed, if you want to sign one heres just one example
